View RCMS Data in Excel (ODBC)

Description

It is possible to view RCMS tables in Microsoft Excel by using an ODBC connection. Only use an ODBC connection to view RCMS tables, if you write data back to RCMS there is no validation done and it can cause errors and/or corrupt your installation.

Instructions

First, you will need to download and set up an ODBC connection to the database:

  1. Download the VFP ODBC driver (vfpodbc.msi) from the following website:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/vfoxodbcdriver/Install/6.1/W9XNT4/EN-US/VFPODBC.msi
  2. Double-click this file to execute the Microsoft installer package.
  3. Click Start and Control Panel.
  4. Double-click Administrative Tools.
  5. Double-click Data Source (ODBC). The ODBC Data Source Administrator screen should appear.
  6. Click User DSN.
  7. Click Add. The Create New Data Source screen should appear.
  8. Select "Microsoft Visual FoxPro Driver."
  9. Click Finish. The ODBC Visual FoxPro Setup screen should appear.
  10. Type "RCMS" into the Data Source Name field.
  11. Select "Visual FoxPro Database" for Database type. Set the Path to the Prodata.dbc file in the root folder of
    RCMS (usually named Pro73 or Pro73sbe).
  12. Click OK.

The ODBC VFP connection is complete.

To open RCMS table in MS Excel:

  1. Have Excel open with a blank worksheet
  2. Go to Data > Import External Data > Import Data
  3. Select "+Connect to New Data Source.odc"
  4. Select ODBC DSN and click Next
  5. Select "RCMS" and click Next
  6. Select the RCMS Table you want to open and click Finish. Popular tables are:
    RCMAST - Master Item Table
    RCITEM - Asset Item Table
    ARCUST - Customer Table
    ARMAST - Current Invoice Header
    ARTRAN - Current Invoice Details
    RCCNHD - Current Contract Header
    RCCNDT - Current Contract Details
  7. Select Existing Worksheet and click OK
